ENGAGEMENT for women
The Shirin Fozdar Programme (SFP) is an independent charitable trust fund initiated by the Association of Women for Action and Research (AWARE) in 1993. It is a commemoration of Mdm Shirin Fozdar, an outstanding Singaporean woman who contributed vitally to the cause of women’s rights in Singapore. In 2009, Singapore Management University (SMU) received custodianship of the Fund, which has since supported numerous awards, grants, projects, conferences, and lectures. The SFP has given close to S$1 million to over 50 projects and some 40 social service organisations in Singapore and ASEAN. It has also contributed to NGO capacity-building work in countries as far away as India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Kenya. Broadly, these programmes seek to further the objective of the SFP in areas such as providing education, training and capacity building opportunities in fields that are beneficial to women, particularly to those who are disadvantaged.
The Fund advisors will continue to raise funds to support the ongoing and new projects by striking strategic alliances with different groups in the community committed to develop women's full potential.
To equip women and families in need with life skills and resources to nurture a resilient community
To organize conferences, dialogues and research to enhance a gender perspective in national policies
To partner with businesses, policy makers, private and non-profit organisations to design collective programmes for change
To develop and support community capability resources to add value to women’s developmental growth
The logo depicts the acronym of Shirin Fozdar - “S” and “F”, a symbol of flame.
It portrayed the continuous passion and leadership of the woman in community. Similarly, the flame is burning with strength and energy. The clean shape of the logo compliment the typeface selection. The colour Orange and Red conveys warmth and enthusiasm.
